Terms of Service

Please read this before using ZettelNote (the "Service"), especially the parts about what zero-knowledge encryption means for you.

1. Acceptance

These Terms govern your use of the Service. By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

2. Accounts

Using the Service requires an account with a username and password. You're responsible for keeping your credentials secure, and we're not liable for damages resulting from unauthorized use of your account.

3. Encryption key / passphrase

The Service uses zero-knowledge encryption: your notes' encryption key is derived from your own passphrase, on your device only, and is never sent to or stored on our servers. Because of this, if you forget your passphrase, nobody — including us — can recover your notes. You are solely responsible for remembering or securely storing your passphrase, and we bear no liability for data loss resulting from a forgotten passphrase.

4. Prohibited use

You may not use the Service to violate any law, infringe on the rights of others, place undue load on our infrastructure, or engage in any other conduct we deem inappropriate.

5. Disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We make reasonable efforts to keep it running reliably, but to the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damages arising from service interruptions, data loss, or changes to the Service.

6. Changes to the Service

We may modify or discontinue the Service, or any part of it, with prior notice to users.

7. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as needed. Updated Terms take effect once posted on this page.

8. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any disputes arising from the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the court having jurisdiction over the operator's location.
